Wednesday Night Rides at the Lakes!

Postby Glancing Aft » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:55 am

Hey Everyone!
Starting on Wednesday, November 4th at 6:00pm and running through the Winter, Alyssa and I will be leading weekly night rides at Lake Redman. The intent of these rides is to keep us all in shape during the winter with some great base miles and some good company! Who likes riding on a trainer or at the gym anyway? The pace will be an Intermediate pace with a consistent two hours of biking (i.e. minimal stopping). No one will be dropped on these rides!

Each week, on Wednesday morning I will post on this thread confirming if the ride will run, or if it's canceled due to the Lakes being closed. During the month of December we hope to run some of these rides at Rocky Ridge. Please also post any feedback on how we can make these rides better for everyone! I would love to get a large turnout to them!

For these rides it is mandatory to bring:
- A Helmet
- A Light System
- A Positive Attitude

Please remember that night riding in any of the York County Parks at any other time other than these sanctioned rides is unlawful and getting caught doing so could jeopardize our future relationship with the Park System.

See you all on the trails in 3 weeks!!! :D :D :D

The Lakes are open and the rain shouldn't be here until after 9ish, so the ride is on for tonight!

See everyone at the boat launch at 6pm!

Have fun tonight. It's going to be a great night for it! I have my lights all charged and the bike ready to ride, but unfortunately I have furniture being delivered tonight and will not be able to join in the fun. Definitely next week. I have that entire day off.

Great ride tonight everyone! Thank You for coming out.

For those that missed it, we had probably the best weather we'll have all winter and 23 riders showed up!

If anyone has any suggestions on how to make these rides better for everyone, please feel free to post them up!

See you all next week!

Does anybody know if the Lakes are open?

The Parks office is closed for Veterans Day and it does not seem like they have updated the answering machine.

As of right now we'll say the ride is on for 6pm, unless I hear otherwise. The rain should roll out of here around 2 or 3pm....

I was able to hook up with the smaller group on Trail# 4 off of Water Street. We had a great time going around the Williams Loop. We never ran into the other group but it's a good thing we didn't because we would have put a hurtin' on them ;)

See ya next time everyone!

What kind of lighting systems is every one using?

Halogen or hid?

I'm starting to get back into biking again and may try to come out for one of the night rides, in the near future.

thanks

We have a mix of people riding with HID, Halogen, or LED... In my opinion, both HID and Halogen are a dieing technology and LED will be the way to go in the future with most light manufactures now pushing 1,000 lumens + LED Lighting systems.... In any case, any lights really work fine, I just personally would not want to ride with anything less than 400 lumens, although people on the night rides get by with 200 or so lumen systems...

Great ride last night, my first night ride in about 3 years, learned one thing, I got to get a better light  , was fine as long as I was right behind another rider with a quality light system.

Jody, glad you had a great time and hope you keep coming out! Here's some talk we've been having on a cheap lighting system that a lot of people seem to be getting, http://yamba.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=85

Will,
Thanks for the link to the bike light information, I went ahead and bought one of those
magicshine units, sounds like some of you`s that have one now like it, the price was right too.
This light (helmet) plus my old handlebar light hopefully will work out. I might have to do a night road
ride first if the trails are closed or too muddly for me.
Jody.
