History
The York Area Mountain Bike Association, otherwise known as YAMBA, was founded on December 21st 2000. The club began with only three founding members and since then has had over 500 individual members.
YAMBA’s Mission Statement
The York Area Mountain Bike Association seeks to promote the conservation of the trail systems within the York County Parks to ensure the longevity of trail access for all trail users. In order to achieve this objective, YAMBA works in cooperation with the York County Parks to help maintain all trails while at the same time providing education to all trail users. We welcome mountain bikers of all ages and abilities to be part of our club.
In recent years, YAMBA’s focus has been on maintaining existing trails within the York County Parks and hosting weekly group rides through the year. Our spring, summer and fall group rides are open to all riders with different groups based on ability. Our night rides include both intermediate and advanced groups.
Trail work sessions focus mainly on maintenance of the existing trails at Rocky Ridge and William Kain Parks. We also assist with building new trails when necessary – like building the Lake Williams Dam bypass trail in 2022.
Club Activities and Accomplishments
YAMBA was founded in 2000. Members have volunteered thousands of hours of trailwork to the York County Parks. YAMBA has also made several generous donations to the York County Parks Charitable Trust. YAMBA maintains and builds trails within the County Parks system. In 2007, YAMBA was the recipient of the York County Park Achievement Award in recognition for volunteer service and financial support toward the improvement and expansion of the trail systems within York County Parks.
In recent years, new trails have been created at Rocky Ridge County Park, William H. Kain County Park and Spring Valley Park. Trailwork sessions are scheduled throughout the year on either Saturdays or Sundays. Please watch our Facebook page for trail work announcements.
Weekly beginner mountain bike rides are held regularly at either Rocky Ridge or the Lakes. The rides begin at 6:00 PM and have a leader and a sweeper. Riders of all skill levels are welcome to attend. Helmets and bike lights are required. Weekend group social rides are held year round weather permitting.
Last year we were pleased to introduce the new branding for YAMBA, which highlights the actions of build, protect, and ride. Please join us as we work to build and protect the trails that we love to ride.
YAMBA assisted with the development and implementation of the Park Ambassador Program with the York County Parks and hosted the IMBA Trail Care Crew who provided a trail building seminars in both 2005 and 2010.
